To make Flour tortilla’s you require
4 cups all purpose unbleached flour
4 teaspoons Baking Powder
2 teaspoons salt
1½cup warm water
2 tablespoons vegetable shortening or lard
Method :
Take a large bowl. Put flour, baking powder and salt and mix it together. Add lard or shortening into it. Either mix it with your hand or take the help of pastry blender or fork. Once it is mixed thoroughly, add warm water and knead it into soft dough. Keep it on a flat surface and knead it more for 5 minutes.
Make it into 16 dough balls. Roll the balls into flat round of 6 inches in diameter and 1/8 inch thick with the help of a roller. Heat a large skillet and place the tortilla on it. Cook till it is brown on one side and turn it to other side. The best sign to know the tortillas are cooked are the brown speckles that appear on it. |
