Like any other country, the Hispanic food is the confluence of Spanish and Mexican food. It began when the Spanish explorers conquered Mexico and found the rich wealth of culinary specialties with peanuts, vanilla, squash, chocolates, beans, corn, tomatoes, and coconuts.
The Spanish conquest was successful and they could establish themselves in Mexico but all their efforts of wiping off the native culture and traditions turned out to be futile. The Spanish explorer brought with them garlic, cheese, citrus fruit, milk, wheat, vinegar, wine, pork, beef and lamb. This gave rise to Hispanic food culture where Spanish and Mexican cuisine merged together.
This is not all; the Mexican cuisine since days has been enriched with more of recipes and ingredients added from different countries. The food from France, Africa, Caribbean, South America and Orients also found place in the Spanish-Mexican cuisine.
Further the Hispanic Food became more refined and came in the form of Tex-Mex food which depicts the cultural blend of Northern Mexico and Southwest US. The cuisines of all these countries in combination gave rise to the finest culinary specialties which is now popularly known as the Mexican food. The Mexican food even now is constantly changing with the outside influences. |
